Steve LaPorte started his make-up career in 1979. He went from working in make-up studios to opening his own studio to running NBC’s in-house lab and finally department-heading his own shows and maintaining a home make-up lab. He’s a 30-year Local 706 Journeyman and longtime member of the Academy of the Motion Picture & Television Arts & Sciences. He’s won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Saturn and a Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award. Current projects include Code Black and Longmire.

Steve has this to say about Chantal-

I’ve know Chantal since 1999 where she first joined my department in Hawaii on the feature film “Windtalkers”. Her ablility to work in a responsible position is equaled by her willingness to learn & embrace whatever challenges are presented to her. She’s also joined me on, “The Rundown”, “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” & “Battleship”. She worked steadily as one of my key artist on “Lost” for the entire 6 year run of the series & quite often took over principle characters & complex makeup tasks on additional shooting units. “Lost” was a unique experience in that I had the opportunity to share my skills & teach one on one, many makeup techniques that quite often were unavailable in Hawaii. She assisted me in life casting, sculpting & molding prosthetics & application. As her skills grew & improved she became self sufficient in application & quite good at matching established makeups while I was on another unit. She has always exhibited the drive to constantly improve her skills & has a great chair side manner with all types of personalities. On several occasions, she’s assisted me in my lab in Burbank, CA. while I prepared for complex makeup projects. I have kept an eye on her progress since Lost & I’m proud to say that she’s stepped up her game to include many advanced prothetic techniques including encapsulated silicone appliances. Her background includes hairstyling, cutting & wigs but rather than remain in one area, Chantal chose to expand her skill set to include all aspects of the makeup crafts. This includes beauty, distressed charater, casualty & facial hair application using lace piesces as well as hand laying techniques. I’ve always put her on my short list of artist to hire for all of my associates who film in Hawaii & would certainly include her on anything that comes my way. Her decision making skills are of high value as well. Having spent long runs with many seasoned department heads, she’s adopted many of the tools necessary to run a department or a second unit for a larger department. Her addition to any Makeup & Hair Department wouldl certainly be a plus in my book.

Jeff Dawn, who is now make up department head on the hit television show Hawaii Five-O, wrote this about Hawaii make up artist Chantal BoomLa:

From  “The Rundown” in 2002 to “Battleship” in 2010 and the last 5 seasons of “Hawaii Five-0” Chantal BoomLa has worked for me as a make-up artist many times. She is hard working and is a quick learner with make-up talents ranging from beauty to character and appliances. Along with working for me on first units I have assigned Chantal many times to department head independent second units. She is respected and well liked by cast, crew and production.

I will recommend Chantal to any Department Head, Producer or UPM that inquires.

Sincerely,
